2013 Fly Fishing Seminar

The French Fly Fishing Seminar series are back for 2013!

We are opening up positions now for bookings.

Due to the success of the 2012 French Techniques Fly Fishing Seminars, Exclusive Cast, in conjunction with Rainbow Lodge, will be holding 4 new sessions in 2013... and in 2 states – Tasmania and Victoria. The first seminar sessions will be held in Meander, Tasmania, on the Meander River. The second lot of seminars will be held in Thornton, Victoria, on the Goulburn and Rubicon rivers. Yannick Riviere, our French Master, will be back to share his tremendous knowledge on river trout fly fishing over one 2 day weekend session, and one 3 day weekday session in each location. On the same basis as last year, the seminars will offer a fully catered program, and include accommodation.

For many years the European fly fisher specialists and competitors have had an edge over the rest of the World, with the French more often than not setting the benchmark. Each year they always pull out some new unknown techniques, which at the end of the day make the difference. It could be just as simple as reading the water and fine-tuning your technique selection, adapting your nymph weight, or casting techniques to achieve the perfect drift. Over the past 10 years, the French National Team has cleaned up at the Worlds 6 times, with another 6 silver and 6 bronze to add to the list. So who better to learn from than the French themselves.

Yannick Riviére is 43 years of age, and married with 2 kids. He was born and grew up in the South of France in the Aude River Valley region. For as long as he can remember he was holding a fishing rod in his hand. Yannick dappled in many fishing techniques, and at the age of 19 he discovered fly fishing. From this day he has exclusively practiced this technique.

Yannick’s debut in competition fishing was in 1992, with the intention to further improve his skills. In 2000 he reached the Premier League, and has remained there ever since. Once there, he managed to achieve a top 10 ranking four years in a row, and in 2004 received an invitation for selection in the French Nation Team. Since 2004 he has been selected 7 times; 5 times for the European Championships, and 2 times for the World Championships.

Not only is he a certified Fly Fishing Guide, Yannick also spends a lot of his time coaching individuals and groups for competition fly fishing. It gives Yannick enjoyment passing on his knowledge to others.

During his time in Tasmania in November 2012, Yannick fell in love with this part of the world and of course the fishing! His river fishing skills outweighed the local specialists, catching many fish in very difficult situations. He is really looking forward to coming back to Tasmania and discovering what Victoria has to offer. His English is limited, however Julien Thomas will be there to translate all your questions and Yannick’s answers to gain the French Fly Fishing perspective.

Seminar Program

The French Techniques Fly Fishing Seminar sessions are a one of a kind opportunity to learn or refine your river fly fishing techniques. Over the course of each seminar, you will learn a great deal of information relative to your equipment and leaders, to nymphing, dry fly or wet and steamer techniques. You will discover the basis of the French casting technique, allowing you to land your fly first, and many other tricks to improve your fly presentation. Fly tying tuition will also feature, including projection onto a big screen with a detailed close up of Yannick's vice.

The seminars are structured around a number of workshops moving progressively though different subjects, leaving time for you to take in and assimilate each and every point and ask all your questions. This is no boring set of classroom lectures!!! You will be very hands on, with indoor and outdoor practicals, including sessions on the water where Yannick will take the time and opportunity to educate one-on-one with each participant.

For competitors, the next world championships are earmarked for the Czech Republic, a country where Yannick has fished the rivers many times. The following year the worlds are in Bosnia where Yannick has won silver in the European championships. So for anyone keen to be part of the Australian world team over the next few years don’t miss this opportunity to gain Yannick’s experience as he can tailor the workshop for you.

Each seminar is limited to 8 participants only.
